Carnival Celebrates First-Ever Solar Eclipse Cruise

Carnival Cruise Line has celebrated a new milestone after passengers experienced a total solar eclipse during the company’s first dedicated solar eclipse cruise.

The 11-day Carnival Journeys sailing aboard Carnival Legend departed from Dover, England, on Aug. 9. The itinerary includes calls at destinations across Spain, Portugal, Belgium and France.

The highlight of the voyage came on August 12th, when *Legend *was at sea and positioned beneath the path of the eclipse’s shadow, according to a statement from the cruise line.

Passengers gathered on deck with special eclipse-viewing glasses to watch as the moon moved in front of the sun, giving those onboard the opportunity to experience the total solar eclipse from the ship.

Carnival also organized dedicated eclipse programming for the occasion. Themed entertainment, drinks and other activities are continuing throughout the remainder of the sailing.

The cruise line said the special voyage demonstrates the continued development of Carnival Journeys, its range of longer and more immersive itineraries. These cruises are designed to provide passengers with additional time to discover destinations while also experiencing unusual and memorable events at sea.

Following its first solar eclipse voyage, Carnival is planning three additional eclipse cruises for 2027.

A 16-day Carnival Journeys cruise aboard Carnival Firenze will leave Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 2nd. The ship will be positioned for the solar eclipse on February 6th, with the itinerary also including calls at Rio de Janeiro and Maceio in Brazil, as well as Grenada, Martinique and St. Maarten.

Carnival Sunshine will offer a 10-day Mediterranean cruise departing Barcelona, Spain, on July 25. The voyage will be positioned to give passengers the opportunity to experience the August 2nd eclipse.

Meanwhile, Carnival Miracle will depart Dover, England, on July 29 for an 11-day Carnival Journeys sailing. The itinerary will include a dedicated day at sea specifically for passengers to view the solar eclipse.
