The Singapore Police Force is testing jetpacks and armed drones as part of new efforts to improve maritime security operations in high-risk situations.

The advanced technology is being evaluated for use by the force’s maritime units, with the goal of helping officers board suspicious vessels more quickly while responding to threats from a safer distance.

According to information released about the trials, the jetpack system could allow officers to fly directly onto targeted ships during interdiction missions, avoiding more traditional boarding methods such as ladders or fast patrol boats.

At the same time, authorities are also assessing weaponized drones that could provide remote tactical support during dangerous encounters at sea. Officials believe the drones could give officers a greater operational advantage during complex maritime security situations.

Singapore has not yet revealed when the systems could enter operational service, and technical details about the equipment remain undisclosed.
