Viva Cruises continues to broaden its offerings beyond its well-established sailings on the Moselle, Danube and Rhine Rivers, according to Andrea Kruse, CEO and co-founder of the company.

“We are in our second season on Portugal’s Douro River and will soon sail on the Seine in France with the Viva Beyond,” Kruse said, explaining that the company’s strategy also focuses on venturing beyond traditional European river routes.

For the first time, Viva Cruises will introduce a new itinerary to Copenhagen, which includes a private transfer to the Danish capital as a special highlight.

Another recent initiative is the debut of VIVA Boutique, a concept that allows passengers to personalize their journeys around three main themes: Culinary Experiences, Culture & Lifestyle, or Art. “The inaugural cruise is scheduled for May 2026 in Paris,” Kruse noted.

Viva Cruises’ core markets include Germany, Norway, the United States, Spain, Belgium, and Luxembourg, but Kruse added that the brand is also attracting international guests. “We’re especially pleased to regularly welcome guests from countries such as Brazil, Sweden and Australia onboard,” she said.

Fleet Growth and Seasonal Offerings

Viva Cruises operates year-round, offering both summer sailings and shorter itineraries during Christmas and New Year. The company has also seen strong demand for its wellness-focused cruises, which emphasize relaxation and onboard wellbeing.

Kruse revealed that the company’s expansion will continue in the coming years. “In addition to the upcoming launch of the Viva Enjoy in 2025, the Viva Beyond will join us in 2026. And there is more to come in 2027,” she said.

Appealing to a Younger Audience

Kruse pointed out that Viva Cruises attracts a younger and more active demographic than many traditional river cruise lines. The company has also noticed an increase in new-to-cruise travelers and strong interest in off-season sailing, which has become a growing trend among European river cruise enthusiasts.

She acknowledged that operating river cruises does come with challenges, including unpredictable water levels and occasional lock closures, but emphasized Viva’s commitment to maintaining a smooth guest experience. “We strive to offer guests the best possible experience through both itineraries and our onboard offering,” Kruse said.

A Diverse and Inclusive Atmosphere

Kruse highlighted that diversity is one of Viva Cruises’ greatest strengths. The line attracts guests from many backgrounds, fostering a rich cultural exchange onboard.

“We ensure that both English and German are consistently spoken onboard … one thing is certain: The coming years with us will be anything but boring,” Kruse concluded.

With its expanding fleet, fresh destinations, and innovative themed cruises, Viva Cruises is positioning itself as one of Europe’s most dynamic river cruise brands—continuing to evolve while offering travelers new ways to experience the continent’s waterways.
