AIDA Marks 30 Years with Three-Ship Spectacle in Hamburg
Hamburg’s waterfront hosted one of the year’s biggest cruise celebrations as AIDA Cruises commemorated its 30th anniversary with a spectacular parade of three ships along the Elbe River.
The special evening event brought together AIDAprima, AIDAperla, and *AIDAsol *in a carefully coordinated display in the heart of the German port city.
The highlight of the celebration was when the three cruise ships assembled in front of Hamburg’s famous Landungsbrücken. Positioned approximately 120 meters apart, the vessels provided a striking backdrop for a colorful waterfront event featuring synchronized performances by harbor tugboats.
The operation required months of planning. AIDA Cruises worked closely with the Hamburg Port Authority and local harbor pilots to coordinate every maneuver, with the entire sequence rehearsed several times using advanced ship simulators to ensure the large vessels can navigate the busy harbor with precision.
Each ship arrived according to a carefully planned schedule. *AIDAprima *returned directly from a cruise and executed a turn near the iconic Elbphilharmonie before taking its place in the formation. Meanwhile, *AIDAperla *and *AIDAsol *left their berths by reversing toward the Landungsbrücken, completing the maneuver without assistance from tugboats.
Adding to the display, four harbor tugboats performed a synchronized routine similar to those seen during Hamburg’s annual port festival, creating a fitting tribute to AIDA Cruises’ three decades of operation.
The anniversary celebrates an important milestone for Germany’s largest cruise line. Since launching its first ship 30 years ago, AIDA Cruises has grown into the country’s leading cruise brand and now operates a fleet of 11 vessels sailing to destinations around the globe.
Hamburg continues to play a central role in the company’s operations. AIDA Cruises makes around 120 port calls in the city each year and is also home to the line’s nautical headquarters, where specialists oversee fleet operations, voyage planning, and navigational support for ships worldwide.
