A global firm specializing in marine and aviation claims has reported that the Panama-flagged cargo vessel Gem Star experienced engine failure on April 26 while navigating off the Portuguese coast. Fortunately, no injuries or environmental damage occurred during the incident.

The crew attempted to resolve the issue onboard but were unable to restore engine function. As a result, the tugboat Roma was called in to assist and tow the vessel to safety.

Built in 2011, the Gem Star measures 177 meters in length and 28.6 meters in width, with a cargo capacity of 33,171 tonnes. MarineTraffic data indicates that the ship departed Gulluk, Türkiye on April 9 and is expected to reach its destination in Gdansk, Poland by May 3.
