Mexico Sets New Cruise Tourism Record in First Half of 2026

Mexico has achieved its best-ever first half for cruise tourism, welcoming more than 6.5 million cruise passengers between January and June 2026, according to the country’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

During the six-month period, the country received 1,839 cruise ship calls, representing a 12.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The average number of passengers carried per cruise ship also climbed by 4.3%, reaching 3,554 guests.

Several Mexican cruise ports experienced notable growth during the first half of the year. Among the strongest-performing destinations were Puerto Chiapas, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, Progreso, and Cozumel, with Puerto Chiapas recording the biggest increase after almost doubling its cruise passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.

The Pacific coast delivered particularly impressive results, with cruise passenger arrivals rising by more than 36%. Meanwhile, ports along the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean also continued to attract growing numbers of visitors, further strengthening Mexico’s reputation as one of the world’s premier cruise destinations.
