Carnival Freedom Begins Transatlantic Voyage to Barcelona
*Carnival Freedom *has departed Port Canaveral for a 14-night transatlantic repositioning cruise that will take the ship to Barcelona, Spain.
The voyage began on Tuesday and features calls in the Bahamas, Morocco and Spain as the Carnival Cruise Line vessel makes its way across the Atlantic.
One of the first highlights of the itinerary is a visit to Carnival’s private destination, Celebration Key. Following the call, passengers will spend nine consecutive days cruising across the Atlantic Ocean.
Later in August, Carnival Freedom is scheduled to arrive in Tangier, Morocco, before continuing into the Mediterranean. The ship will then visit the Spanish ports of Málaga and Alicante before completing its repositioning voyage in Barcelona on Sept. 1, 2026.
Following its arrival in Europe, the 2,974-passenger *Freedom *is expected to enter drydock ahead of returning to passenger service in October. As well as undergoing routine maintenance, the 2007-built vessel is scheduled to receive minor improvements to some of its public spaces and onboard features. Further information about the planned work is expected to be announced at a later date.
Carnival Freedom will welcome passengers back onboard for an eight-night Western Mediterranean cruise beginning on Oct. 9, 2026. Sailing roundtrip from Barcelona, the itinerary will visit destinations in Spain, France, Italy and Malta. Scheduled ports of call include Marseille, Livorno, Naples and Valletta.
*Freedom *will begin its journey back to North America in mid-October with another repositioning cruise. This 13-night voyage will include destinations in Spain, the United Kingdom and the Bahamas before the ship returns to Port Canaveral. Ports scheduled for the crossing include Alicante, Málaga and Gibraltar, as well as another visit to Celebration Key.
Once back in Florida, Carnival Freedom is set to resume its regular program of short cruises to the Bahamas ahead of the 2026-27 winter season. Operating from Port Canaveral, the vessel will offer a selection of four- and five-night itineraries that will feature destinations including Nassau, Celebration Key and Half Moon Cay.
*Freedom *will continue sailing from Port Canaveral until May 2027, when it is scheduled to reposition to Norfolk. The vessel will take over itineraries currently operated by Carnival Sunshine as part of Carnival Cruise Line’s future deployment plans.
