Container Ship Orita Towed After Engine Failure

The container vessel Orita experienced an engine breakdown while navigating the Çanakkale Strait on 9 December during a voyage from Aliağa to Kocaeli. Authorities confirmed that the incident caused no injuries or environmental pollution.

According to local reports, the ship encountered machinery failure near Gelibolu. The Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Center quickly initiated a coordinated response, sending a guide captain and deploying the tugboats Kurtarma 18 and Kurtarma 20 to assist the vessel.

With Kurtarma 18 providing an escort, the Orita was secured and taken under tow by Kurtarma 20. The vessel was successfully moved to the Şevketiye Anchorage Area, where it anchored safely without any further complications.
