Costa Cruises is reminding passengers about its onboard sanitation policies, warning that guests who remove food from buffet areas or restaurants for consumption elsewhere on the ship could face a €60 cleaning charge.

In a notice sent to guests, the cruise line explained that food taken from dining venues must not be consumed in cabins, pool areas, lounges, or other indoor public spaces due to hygiene and health concerns. Costa said the policy is designed to help prevent food contamination, reduce the risk of parasites, and maintain cleanliness standards across its fleet.

“All food must be consumed exclusively in designated dining areas,” the notice states.

The company also noted that only room service personnel trained in hygiene and sanitation procedures are permitted to transport food to guest cabins when requested and passengers who fail to follow the policy may be charged a €60 cleaning fee, according to the letter.

Costa Cruises thanked guests for their understanding and cooperation, stressing the importance of maintaining high hygiene standards for everyone onboard.
