Norwegian Sky Ends Career with Norwegian Cruise Line – and No Shops

Norwegian Sky is completing its final cruise for Norwegian Cruise Line, today, September 9, bringing its career with the company to an end.

Following the cancellation earlier this year of a planned repositioning voyage to the Middle East, the ship is instead leaving the NCL fleet after completing a nine-night Mediterranean cruise. The farewell sailing departed Barcelona on August 31, 2026, and features destinations in Spain, France, Italy and Greece.

In a statement provided to passengers on the final voyage, Norwegian advised that several onboard services and facilities would either be unavailable or operate differently during the cruise.

“As you may know, this sailing marks Norwegian Sky’s final voyage as part of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet before it begins an exciting new chapter,” the company’s letter read.

As part of preparations taking place following this cruise, a limited number of onboard venues, services and activities will be adjusted during your sailing.

Norwegian said the advance notice was intended to help passengers plan their time aboard the ship and get the most from their final Norwegian Sky cruise.

All onboard retail stores were unavailable during the voyage, while the vessel’s Art Gallery closed on September 2, 2026. Passengers needing mobility or respiratory equipment were also advised to make arrangements before embarking. Norwegian specifically mentioned equipment including powered scooters, manual wheelchairs and oxygen concentrators.

The cruise line also confirmed that spa treatments booked for September 8, 2026, would be automatically cancelled because the spa was scheduled to close the previous day. Passengers affected by the cancellations reportedly received full refunds to their onboard accounts.

“While these select offerings will be unavailable, many of the experiences that make a vacation with Norwegian so memorable remain available throughout your voyage, including our restaurants, bars and lounges,” the company added.

Later this month, Norwegian Sky is expected to be handed over to Cordelia Cruises. The vessel will then begin the next stage of its career, operating a series of cruises in India for its new owner.
