Cruise Passenger Brawl in Nassau Ends in Arrests
A fight involving cruise passengers at Nassau Cruise Port escalated into a confrontation with police, leading to several arrests, injuries to officers and damage to a police facility.
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers were called to reports of a disturbance involving multiple cruise visitors in the port area shortly after 4:45 p.m. on June 8. Three women and two men, all U.S. citizens, were taken into custody following the incident.
Video footage shared on social media captured a chaotic scene in which passengers appeared to exchange punches and push one another while port employees attempted to intervene and restore order. Based on the footage, the altercation seemed to involve a younger group of passengers and an elderly couple, although authorities have not confirmed the cause of the dispute.
The situation reportedly worsened after the five individuals were transported to the Tourism Police Station for processing. Police said officers were preparing to search the suspects when the group allegedly began “violently struggling” with law enforcement personnel.
Authorities stated that one female suspect threw a chair through a glass door, shattering it. Police further alleged that a male suspect then kicked out the remaining glass in what appeared to be an effort to escape. Officers quickly restrained him, while additional police units were dispatched to help regain control of the situation.
The five individuals could now face multiple charges, including assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, fighting in a public place, disorderly conduct and malicious damage.
Four police officers were injured during the incident. According to authorities, two officers suffered bodily injuries, one sustained a cut to the mouth, and another suffered a serious shoulder injury that required transportation to a local hospital by ambulance. No further update on that officer’s condition has been released.
The passengers involved also received minor injuries during the initial altercation at the cruise port and were treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel.
Cruise schedules show that six vessels were in Nassau on June 8, including Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess, and Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy.
