Disney Dream Crew Drink Tampering Claim Investigated in Spain

Spanish authorities have launched an investigation after a crew member aboard the Disney Dream reported a suspected drink tampering incident while the cruise ship was docked in Vigo, Spain.

The alleged victim, an Argentine national, became ill while on board and was initially treated by the ship’s medical team before being transferred to Fátima Hospital after the vessel arrived in Vigo.

According to reports, the crew member told medical staff she believed someone had added a substance to her bottle of water. Spanish newspaper Faro de Vigo reported that sources familiar with the investigation suggested the substance may have been chlorine, although laboratory tests have not officially confirmed this.

After receiving treatment and being discharged from the hospital, the crew member filed a formal complaint with Spain’s National Police. She also identified another member of the ship’s crew as the person she believes was responsible for the alleged poisoning.

Following notification of the incident, Spain’s Civil Guard boarded the Disney Dream and opened an investigation. Authorities are also expected to analyze the contents of the water bottle to determine whether it contained any harmful substance.

So far, no arrests have been made. It also remains uncertain whether the investigation will ultimately be handled by the Civil Guard or transferred to the National Police following the formal complaint. The allegations remain under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Authorities have not released any additional information about the reported incident.

The Disney Dream was due to leave Vigo on July 24 as part of a seven-night repositioning cruise from Barcelona to Southampton, with scheduled calls at Cartagena, Málaga, Vigo and A Coruña.
