Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has announced the release of “Soundtrack for the Seas,” a new album by acclaimed composer Benjamin Squires that is being described as the world’s first original musical score created specifically for a cruise experience.

The album was inspired by a voyage in search of the Northern Lights and was composed as part of Squires’ appointment as the first-ever Composer-in-Residence for Fred. Olsen and the wider cruise industry.

Doug Glenwright, Guest Experience Director at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “Cruising is an experience like no other, and our Soundtrack for the Seas beautifully captures the emotion, sounds and sensory richness of a smaller ship voyage with Fred. Olsen.”

Squires has created something truly special: a soundtrack that reflects the anticipation, wonder and joy our guests feel on every sailing. Whether listening onboard, at home, or while dreaming of a future adventure, this music allows them to reconnect with the unique feeling of being at sea,” added Glenwright.

Squires has previously composed music for trailers promoting the Hollywood films “Wicked: For Good” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”

Reflecting on the project, Squires said: “Spending time aboard the *Balmoral *gave me access to so many extraordinary moments, from the thrill of standing on deck as the ship departed to watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky.”

Every track is rooted in real experiences and sounds captured during the voyage. My hope is that listeners lose themselves in it and feel fully transported, whether they’re reliving a past cruise or imagining their first adventure at sea,” added Squires.

The cinematic album features six main tracks along with two bonus compositions. Squires spent 10 days aboard *Balmoral *in March, immersing himself in the onboard experience while creating the music.

The score was orchestrated by Peter Davison and Danny Keane and recorded at London’s renowned AIR Studios in Lyndhurst Hall.

According to Fred. Olsen, the soundtrack will become part of the onboard experience across its fleet. Guests will also be able to enjoy an exclusive sleep track, specially composed to promote relaxation and available in ship cabins. A limited-edition vinyl version of the album will be sold in the onboard Sea Cove shop.

The complete “Soundtrack for the Seas” album is now available on all major music streaming platforms.
