The Greece-flagged ro-ro cargo ship Talos ran aground on a sandy shoal in the Vintzi sea area at the port of Naxos on January 17. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries and no pollution resulting from the incident.

The Naxos Port Authority was notified shortly before midday. At the time of the grounding, the vessel was operating on a scheduled service and was carrying 20 crew members, 12 passengers, and 29 trucks.

Talos later managed to refloat using its own propulsion and made an attempt to berth at the port. During the mooring process, however, the ship’s stern came into contact with the central pier. Strong winds and unfavorable weather conditions prevented the vessel from berthing safely, prompting it to move to an anchorage southwest of Naxos.

After inspections confirmed the vessel’s condition, Talos departed the anchorage later on January 17. The ship completed its voyage without further issues, arriving safely at the port of Piraeus on January 19.
