Indian Navy Assists Tanker Fire in Gulf of Oman

On June 29, a fire broke out aboard the Yi Cheng 6, a Palau-flagged oil product tanker, while it was sailing through the Gulf of Oman. The vessel, which had 14 Indian crew members onboard, was traveling from Kandla Port in India to Shinas Port in Oman at the time of the incident.
The fire began in the ship’s engine room, causing a total power outage. A distress signal was sent out and received by INS Tabar, an Indian Navy stealth frigate that was operating in the region on a routine mission.
Responding swiftly, the crew of INS Tabar dispatched thirteen naval personnel to the scene via a small boat and a helicopter. Armed with firefighting equipment, the team coordinated with five crew members from the Yi Cheng 6 to combat the blaze. Their joint efforts successfully brought the fire under control.
