Lisbon Cruise Awards Add Focus on Sustainability and Community
The Port of Lisbon has broadened its annual Cruise Activity Awards to place greater emphasis on sustainability and community engagement, unveiling a new category during this year’s ceremony on March 23.
For the first time, the awards included a dedicated segment within the “Cruise Lines for the Community” program, highlighting cruise operators that contribute to social and environmental initiatives in the city.
Carnival UK was honored with the Excellence in Community Engagement Award for its involvement in local projects. Crew members from Queen Anne, Britannia, and Arcadia participated in three beach clean-up events, collecting a combined 60 kilograms of waste and supporting efforts to protect Lisbon’s coastline.
Further contributions included donation drives organized by Arcadia and Ventura, which provided approximately 400 kilograms of equipment and supplies to ENTRAJUDA, an organization that supports social welfare institutions.
In addition, MSC Cruises and the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) were recognized for their “All Aboard!” initiative. The program involved around 70 fifth-grade students in Lisbon, offering educational activities aimed at strengthening connections between the local community and the cruise sector.
