The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA), Ports America, and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), part of Mediterranean Shipping Co, have formed a joint venture to operate a new container terminal in St. Bernard Parish.

The partnership, named Louisiana International Terminal Holdings, will oversee the development and management of the new facility.

“We are at a defining moment for the future of Louisiana’s role in international commerce,” said Beth Branch, president and CEO of Port NOLA. “The Louisiana International Terminal is not only an impactful regional project, it is a nationally significant investment that will strengthen US supply chains, expand export capacity, and ensure Louisiana remains competitive in the global economy for generations to come.”

When it first opens, the terminal is expected to handle up to 280,000 TEU. Over time, as development progresses, capacity is projected to increase to around 1.2 million TEU at full buildout.
