Marella Finds 57% of Brits Open to Family Cruise Holidays

Marella Cruises has revealed that more than half of British travelers - 57 percent - would consider taking a multigenerational cruise, according to findings from the company’s recent survey.
The research highlighted that nearly two in five respondents (32 percent) view spending quality time with loved ones as the main motivation for traveling with family across different generations.
Gen Z travelers are reportedly driving this trend, with 36 percent expressing interest in multigenerational trips, followed by Millennials (34 percent), Baby Boomers (32 percent), and Gen X (29 percent).
“With multigenerational cruise holidays on the rise, Marella Cruises makes it easy for every family member to feel looked after with our all-inclusive offering,” said Chris Hackney, CEO at Marella Cruises.
“From grandparents enjoying a drink at Indigo Bar and parents relaxing at Ocean’s Spa, to kids having fun at the M Club and everyone coming together for a round of mini golf, there’s something for all ages, all in one place,” Hackney added.
The study also found that 13 percent of respondents believe family cruise holidays are more enjoyable simply because “the more people there are on holiday, the more fun it is.” Other key reasons included greater flexibility, shared costs, and the chance for older and younger family members to bond.
Interestingly, more Gen Z travelers (51 percent) than Gen X (20 percent) said they would prefer to go on a cruise with their parents.
Marella’s booking data further revealed that Birmingham ranks as the UK’s leading city for family and group cruise bookings, followed by Cardiff, Sheffield, Newcastle, and Nottingham.
