Pakistan’s ship recycling industry has reached a major milestone with Prime Green Recyclers becoming the country’s first facility to meet Hong Kong Convention (HKC) compliance standards.

Founded in 2000 in Gadani under the name Prime Ship Breakers, the company later adopted the Prime Green Recyclers brand.

Classification society Bureau Veritas has now issued a statement of compliance to the yard, marking a significant achievement for Pakistan, which has long lagged behind India, Bangladesh and Turkey in formal certification despite being a major ship recycling hub.

Industry sources suggest this development may be the beginning of broader progress, with two additional Pakistani yards expected to secure HKC compliance in the coming weeks.
