Worker Dies in Fatal Accident at Port of Hamburg
A worker has lost his life following an accident aboard a cargo ship at the Port of Hamburg on May 29 after being struck by a heavy object.
Emergency responders were alerted at approximately 4:49 p.m. local time after reports that a ship component or structural attachment had fallen from above and hit a worker on board the vessel. The impact left the man trapped beneath the fallen object for a short period. Rescue crews were able to free the worker and immediately began resuscitation efforts. Despite their attempts, he was later declared dead at the scene.
According to local media reports, the incident involved the Latvia-flagged general cargo vessel Capella, which had been berthed in Hamburg since May 28. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
