Batam Shipyard Fire Claims Four Lives, Injures Five More

A deadly fire erupted on June 24 aboard the Federal II, an Indonesian-flagged Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) vessel, while it was undergoing maintenance at ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia. The incident led to four fatalities and injured five others.
According to local police, the fire broke out at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time during steel-cutting operations being carried out by workers on the vessel. Of the five injured, four sustained serious burn injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment, while the fifth person suffered only minor injuries.
The blaze was quickly tackled by the shipyard's in-house emergency response team. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been ignited by a leak of flammable gas or vapors, which fueled the rapid spread of flames across the vessel.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident.
