On September 5, the Malta-flagged bulk carrier Elina B became disabled while transiting the Dardanelles near Sarıçay, Turkey. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries or pollution as a result of the incident.
The ship experienced an engine breakdown, leaving it adrift in the busy waterway. Turkey’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) deployed the tugboats Kurtarma 18 and Kurtarma 20 to provide assistance. Crews managed to secure a towline and safely guided the vessel to an anchorage area close to Çanakkale Port.
Built in 2011, the Elina B is 196 meters long, 32.26 meters wide, and has a deadweight carrying capacity of 58,480 tonnes.
