Bulk Carrier Refloated After Grounding in Çanakkale Strait
The Panama-flagged bulk carrier Nota App was successfully refloated after running aground in the Çanakkale Strait on March 11. Authorities reported no injuries or environmental damage resulting from the incident.
The vessel, which was transporting grain from Russia to Egypt, reportedly experienced an engine failure while performing a turning maneuver. The loss of power caused the ship to run aground in the strait.
Turkey’s General Directorate of Coastal Safety responded by sending several rescue units to assist. The operation involved the tugboats Kurtarma 21, Kurtarma 4, and Kurtarma 15, along with the rescue boat KEGM-8. Divers were also deployed to carry out an underwater inspection during the salvage effort.
After the response teams completed their work, the vessel was successfully refloated. It was then escorted by the tugboats Kurtarma 4 and Kurtarma 15 to Karanlık Liman Anchorage, where it anchored safely to undergo further inspection.
