Captain Kristina Steinle Takes Command of AIDAluna
AIDA Cruises has announced that Kristina Steinle has assumed command of the cruise ship AIDAluna. The news was shared on social media, where the company highlighted her long history with the vessel. Steinle first joined AIDA in 2013 as a third officer onboard AIDAluna, the same ship she now leads.
For Steinle, stepping into the role of captain on AIDAluna marks a significant milestone. In a video message, she described the ship as having a “very special connection” to her career, as it was where she began her journey at sea with AIDA Cruises.
Since then, she has built extensive experience across the fleet, serving in various roles and contributing to key projects, including the launch of AIDAperla.
Now in command, Steinle takes on full responsibility for the ship, its crew, and its passengers. She highlighted the importance of teamwork, noting that strong collaboration between departments is essential for delivering a smooth and enjoyable cruise experience.
“We are one team,” she said, emphasizing the need for open communication and mutual respect across all ranks.
Her appointment also reflects the ongoing shift toward greater diversity in maritime leadership roles, particularly on the bridge, which has traditionally been male-dominated. Many social media users have welcomed the news as a positive step forward.
Under Steinle’s leadership, AIDAluna is set for a varied sailing program. The ship is currently operating a voyage from the Canary Islands to Hamburg, followed by itineraries across Northern Europe.
Upcoming routes include destinations such as:
- Norway
- Iceland
- Svalbard
- France
- Spain
- The United Kingdom
Steinle also shared her excitement about future sailings, particularly those to Japan, highlighting the diverse nature of the ship’s schedule.
As she takes on her new role, Steinle said she is eager to create memorable experiences for both guests and crew.
“I am very much looking forward to experiencing many unforgettable journeys together with our crew and our guests,” she said.
