Carnival Cruise Line has revealed that in celebration of Veterans Day, it joined forces with the Orlando Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (Orlando VA) and the Gary Sinise Foundation to honor nearly 100 local veterans, recognizing their bravery and dedication.

The tribute, held aboard the Mardi Gras, also welcomed the surviving spouses and children of fallen military and first responder heroes.

“Our heartfelt thanks to Carnival for the incredible compassion and care they show our families of fallen heroes through their support of the Gary Sinise Foundation,” said Donna Mercier, executive director of the Gary Sinise Foundation.

During the ceremony, Carnival announced it would be donating an adapted sedan to the Orlando VA. The vehicle will assist veterans in determining their need for adaptive driving equipment and provide training to help them drive safely.

John Harshaw, a U.S. Navy veteran and Carnival’s vice president of global IT infrastructure, made the formal announcement of the donation.

“As America’s cruise line, we are honored to show our appreciation for those who bravely put their lives on the line to protect our country. By providing this adapted vehicle to the Orlando VA, we’re able to further support the wellbeing of the veteran community,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.

Orlando VA Whole Health Clinical Director Ashley Rush shared her gratitude, stating: “The Orlando VA Health Care System Occupational Therapy program is honored to receive this generous donation from the Carnival Cruise Line team.”

Rush added, “Over 250 veterans are anticipated to benefit from this adaptive vehicle donation in 2026 alone. This donation will include essential vehicle modifications and will empower and equip veterans with the skills and confidence needed to regain independence after experiencing life-changing conditions.”

According to a press release, the event concluded with a salute to each branch of the U.S. military and a special video tribute from Gary Sinise dedicated to the families of fallen heroes.

To mark the occasion, Carnival presented commemorative coins to military members, veterans, and families of the fallen. Children of the fallen heroes also enjoyed a few fun moments on board, including rides on BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea, located atop the Mardi Gras.
