Carnival Corporation has launched its surplus meal donation program in Latin America for the first time, beginning in Roatán, Honduras. The company said 210 portions of prepared but unused meals from the Carnival Jubilee were donated to local organizations assisting communities in need.

The effort forms part of Carnival Corporation’s “Less Left Over” initiative, which aims to reduce food waste while also helping address food insecurity in destinations visited by the company’s ships.

Since the program began in 2017, it has expanded to 18 ports around the world and has distributed more than 320,000 meal portions globally.

Officials in Roatán welcomed the initiative, noting that the donated food will benefit schools, hospitals, and community organizations across the island. Carnival representatives also emphasized the importance of food safety procedures and close coordination between onboard teams and local authorities to ensure the meals are properly handled and safely delivered ashore.

The announcement also reflects Carnival Corporation’s ongoing investment in Roatán through Isla Tropicale, the company’s cruise destination in Honduras, which has hosted nearly 9 million visitors since opening in 2009.

According to Carnival, its broader food waste reduction efforts have already lowered food waste per guest by 47% since 2019. The company’s long-term target is to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.
