CMA CGM Expands Multimodal Routes Around Hormuz
French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM is introducing alternative multimodal transport options that combine sea, rail, and road in order to keep cargo moving efficiently despite ongoing challenges in the Strait of Hormuz.
The company is routing cargo through the United Arab Emirates, using ports located south of the Strait such as Khor Fakkan, Fujairah, and Sohar as key gateways for shipments heading into the Gulf region.
From these entry points, CMA CGM has developed logistics corridors linking to major UAE hubs including Khalifa, Jebel Ali, and Sharjah, as well as to neighboring Gulf countries. These routes rely on a mix of regional trucking and short-sea shipping.
An additional option includes a land corridor passing through Saudi Arabia. The Red Sea port of Jeddah also serves as an alternative route that avoids transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
From Jeddah, the company has set up road-based connections, with or without sea links, to move cargo onward to Dammam in Saudi Arabia and to other destinations across the region, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq. This network also allows shipments to connect with routes to the Mediterranean and Asia without passing through the Strait.
CMA CGM is also utilizing ports in Oman as a third key option. These locations support overland transport into the UAE and northern Gulf markets, combining trucking with feeder vessel services to provide a dependable solution for both regional and cross-border logistics.
