The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported another attempted piracy incident off the coast of Somalia on April 28.

The event took place about 500 nautical miles east of Mogadishu and involved a tanker sailing through the Indian Ocean. According to UKMTO, the vessel was first approached by what is believed to be a pirate action group (PAG), with a larger wooden boat crossing ahead of the tanker at a distance of roughly one nautical mile.

Soon after, two smaller boats approached from the starboard side, closing in to around 400 meters. The situation de-escalated when the individuals onboard the smaller craft noticed security personnel on the tanker, prompting them to withdraw. No damage or injuries were reported.

This latest case adds to a series of piracy-related incidents in the region. Authorities have recorded four suspected attacks near the Somali coast in recent weeks, including the confirmed hijackings of two vessels, Honour 25 and Sward.

UKMTO has highlighted a rising threat from suspected PAG activity and is advising vessels in the area to remain highly vigilant.
