CMA CGM of France has signed a strategic agreement with Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) to establish a new $600 million deepwater terminal in Haiphong, located in northern Vietnam.

This partnership includes the planning, development, and future management of Lach Huyen terminals 7 and 8, situated in the Lach Huyen area of Haiphong. Once completed, the facility will offer an annual handling capacity of 1.9 million TEU and is slated to begin operations in 2028.

CMA CGM currently operates 29 weekly shipping services connecting to seven Vietnamese ports. The Marseille-headquartered shipping group already has a presence in the country through joint ventures in the Gemalink terminal at Cai Mep and the Vietnam International Container Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to CMA CGM, the new terminal venture will strengthen its long-term capacity in northern Vietnam, a region becoming increasingly crucial to Asia’s supply chains amid rapid industrial and logistics development.
