Cunard marked a significant occasion on May 27 as Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal came aboard the Queen Anne while the ship was docked in Liverpool, according to an official statement.

During her time on the vessel, The Princess Royal engaged with local dignitaries, Cunard guests, and crew members in the elegant Queens Room. She also had the opportunity to meet with members of the Cunard Women Officers Network, a group that includes female professionals from both the maritime and hospitality divisions of the company.

Liverpool holds a special place in Cunard’s legacy. It was the departure point of the company’s first transatlantic voyage in May 1840 and remained Cunard’s headquarters for over a century. In 2024, the city was honored with the title of Queen Anne’s Godparent during a ceremony at the Liverpool Waterfront.

Cunard President Katie McAlister remarked: “While this was intended to be a moment of celebration for Cunard’s 185th anniversary, instead it’s now a moment of solidarity with the city and our thoughts are with all those affected, and with the entire community at this time. Liverpool is not just where Cunard was founded — it’s where our story began. This great city, with its proud maritime history and strong sense of identity, has shaped Cunard from the very beginning. The docks, the river, and the people of Liverpool are all part of our heritage and remain central to who we are today. The bond between Cunard and Liverpool has grown over generations. It is built on shared values — resilience, pride, and a deep respect for tradition — and it continues to mean a great deal to us. We feel a strong connection to this city and are always proud to return.”

The visit also coincided with the Sea of Glamour exhibition, curated by Mary McCartney. The showcase features 184 photographs capturing both historic and contemporary moments from Cunard’s storied timeline.
