Deck plans published on Cunard’s website indicate that Queen Mary 2 is set to receive 30 additional staterooms as part of a major refurbishment scheduled for 2027.

The iconic vessel, which entered service in 2004 as the world’s first modern ocean liner, will see a mix of new suites and inside cabins added during the upgrade. The changes are expected to increase the ship’s double-occupancy passenger capacity by approximately 2.5 percent from its current total of 2,620 guests.

Most of the new accommodations will be created on Deck 13, where an existing sun deck area is being transformed into a dedicated stateroom section.

Plans show the space will feature 18 new Princess Grill Suites along with five inside cabins. Additional accommodations are also planned elsewhere on the ship. On Deck 9, the current Concierge Lounge will be converted into four inside staterooms, while Deck 8 will gain a new Penthouse Suite. The luxury suite will occupy space currently used by a bookstore located adjacent to the ship’s library.

Further changes include the conversion of part of the Teens and Kids Zone on Deck 6 into four additional inside cabins. Other modifications outlined in the deck plans include the creation of a new sun deck on Deck 14 and the removal of the Boardwalk Café from Deck 12.

Although Cunard has not officially released full details of the refurbishment, the company’s website confirms that enhancement work will take place ahead of the 2027 summer season. The 151,400-ton vessel is expected to enter drydock in late March 2027 and return to service on May 9, 2027.

The planned increase in accommodations reflects a broader trend across the cruise industry, with several cruise lines adding cabins to existing ships during refurbishment projects.
