Engine Room Fire Erupts on Vollsøy Ferry, No Injuries

A fire broke out in the engine room of the passenger ferry Vollsøy on the afternoon of May 6. The blaze was quickly contained, and no injuries have been reported.
The incident occurred while the vessel was docked at Mekjarvik port in Norway. According to reports, the fire originated from a generator located within the engine room.
Emergency services responded promptly, with police arriving at the scene around 2:00 PM local time, shortly after the fire department had already begun tackling the blaze. The fire was fully extinguished by 2:30 PM.
Despite significant smoke billowing from the engine room, authorities confirmed that no one was hurt during the incident.
The ferry was undergoing maintenance work at the time of the fire. While the full extent of the damage is not yet known, an investigation is underway. Early indications suggest that a technical malfunction may have sparked the fire.
