Ferry Hits Jetty at Greek Port of Rafina
A Greek-flagged 2006-built ro-ro passenger ferry, Andros King, struck a jetty at the entrance to the Port of Rafina in Greece on June 8, causing serious damage to the structure. Reports said the jetty was split in two by the impact.
The incident happened as Andros King arrived in Rafina from Mykonos, following calls at Tinos and Andros. At the time, the vessel was carrying 283 passengers, 60 crew members, 67 private vehicles, 10 motorcycles and 13 trucks.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew, and authorities said there was no pollution in the surrounding area. Coast Guard and port officials quickly attended the scene to inspect both the ship and the damaged port infrastructure.
Initial checks found that the ferry had not sustained damage affecting its seaworthiness. Following more detailed technical inspections, the vessel was authorized to depart the next morning at around 7:50 a.m.
The Rafina Port Authority has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
