Hapag-Lloyd and DP World Sign Long-Term Africa Terminal Deal

Hapag-Lloyd has entered into a long-term agreement with DP World covering terminal capacity and port infrastructure in five African markets as the German container shipping company continues to strengthen its operations across the continent.

Under the agreement, Hapag-Lloyd will secure long-term terminal capacity at DP World facilities in Dakar, Senegal; Luanda, Angola; and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The two companies will also work to support the development of port infrastructure at Banana in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Maputo in Mozambique.

Hapag-Lloyd expects the volume of cargo it transports in Africa to surpass 1 million teu during 2026. The carrier said that ensuring access to sufficient terminal capacity will play an important role in supporting the continued expansion of its African network with the partnership with DP World being part of Hapag-Lloyd’s wider terminal strategy.

This approach combines long-term access agreements with third-party terminal operators alongside the continued expansion of Hapag-Lloyd’s own terminal portfolio through Hanseatic Global Terminals.
