A fire was reported onboard the bulk carrier CSL Thames on January 19 while it was moored at South Quay in the port of Emden, Germany. Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred and there was no environmental pollution.
Local fire services were called to the scene and deployed firefighters to the vessel. Once onboard, crews established that the fire had started in one of the ship’s generators. By the time emergency responders arrived, the blaze had already been put out using the ship’s internal firefighting systems.
As a safety measure, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus boarded the vessel to carry out a detailed inspection. No signs of re-ignition were found, and the response operation was completed within an hour.
