Google Signs First Offshore Wind Deal in Asia Pacific

Google has entered into its first offshore wind power purchase agreement in the Asia Pacific region, marking a significant step in its renewable energy strategy.
The U.S. tech company will buy clean electricity from the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm, a 500MW project located 35 kilometers off the coast of Taichung, Taiwan. The wind farm is being developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and is notable for being the first project from Taiwan’s Round 3.1 offshore wind auction to reach financial close.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2027, Fengmiao 1 will supply carbon-free energy to support Google’s data center, cloud infrastructure, and offices in Taiwan.
This agreement expands Google’s existing renewable energy initiatives in the country, which already include solar and geothermal sources. The company continues to work toward its long-term ambition of running on carbon-free energy 24/7 across all grids where it operates.
Fengmiao 1 also contributes to Taiwan’s broader clean energy goals. The government is targeting 5.7GW of offshore wind capacity by 2025 and aims to add another 15GW by 2035. Fengmiao 1 will play a role in advancing the second phase of that plan.
