A health emergency aboard Britannia, operated by P&O Cruises, led to an unexpected diversion to the Cromarty Firth in Scotland on the evening of Sunday, June 8, 2025. The ship had originally been scheduled to dock at Invergordon the following morning, Monday, June 9.

Emergency Detour to Port of Nigg

Tracking data shows that the vessel changed course and made a brief stop at the Port of Nigg at approximately 6:45 p.m. local time. During this unplanned call, a passenger in need of urgent medical care was transferred ashore. After the medical evacuation, Britannia continued a slower journey through the Moray Firth before returning to the Cromarty Firth and arriving at Invergordon as originally scheduled.

Cruise Line Confirms Course Change for Medical Reasons

A representative for P&O Cruises confirmed that the ship made the detour to ensure the guest received the necessary medical attention. Britannia is currently in the midst of a 14-night round-Britain cruise that departed from Southampton the previous Friday.

No information has been made public about the passenger’s identity or nationality. It remains unclear why a helicopter airlift was not conducted, with the transfer taking place via port instead.

At this time, the individual’s medical condition has not been officially updated.
