MSC Group and the MSC Foundation have begun a large scale relief initiative to assist the Jamaican Government’s humanitarian response after Hurricane Melissa struck on October 28.

The cruise ship MSC Divina has delivered 12,700 liters of bottled water and 264 waterproof tarps to Ocho Rios. The supplies arrived on November 11 to meet urgent needs identified by local relief groups, providing safe drinking water and materials for temporary shelters.

The MSC Foundation has also pledged to transport 12 containers of additional relief items from the United States. In support of local organizations, the foundation has provided 14 containers to help NGOs such as Food For The Poor and the RG Cares Foundation store and distribute aid. More projects are being developed to continue contributing to Jamaica’s long term recovery.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises and Chair of the MSC Foundation Executive Committee, said:

“We are fully committed to supporting the people of Jamaica as they face the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. Working with our local partners, we are coordinating the delivery of essential resources to bring relief to affected communities and ensure help reaches those who need it most.”
