Norwegian Viva Moves to Miami for 2027-28, Puerto Rico Cancelled
Norwegian Cruise Line has announced plans to reposition Norwegian Viva to PortMiami for the 2027-28 winter season, resulting in the cancellation of the ship’s previously scheduled Southern Caribbean cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In a notice sent to booked guests, the cruise line confirmed that all *Norwegian Viva *sailings departing from San Juan between late 2027 and early 2028 have been canceled. Instead, the Prima-class vessel will operate short cruises to the Bahamas from Miami, joining the rest of Norwegian’s fleet based at the South Florida port.
“We are committed to providing exceptional vacation experiences, both aboard our ships and by taking our guests to some of the most coveted destinations in the world,” Norwegian stated.
Although we try to maintain original itineraries as much as possible, modifications are occasionally made to optimize voyages due to changes in port availability,” the company continued.
Passengers affected by the changes will receive a full refund within 30 business days, along with a ten percent Future Cruise Credit (FCC). Norwegian said the FCC is being offered as a gesture of appreciation for guests’ understanding and may be used on sailings departing through 2027.
Guests who still wish to cruise from San Juan will be able to choose alternative itineraries aboard Norwegian Prima, which will continue operating roundtrip Southern Caribbean voyages from Puerto Rico. “These itineraries include many of the same highly requested destinations, as well as the same convenient and accessible departure point you originally chose,” Norwegian said.
The company also emphasized that Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva are sister ships that offer the “same high-quality amenities and experiences.”
From Miami, Norwegian Viva will sail short Bahamas cruises featuring visits to Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line’s private island destination, which is currently undergoing a significant redevelopment project that includes the addition of a new ship pier.
“At NCL’s premier destination, our guests will get to enjoy ‘The Great Life’ in a completely new way,” the company explained. “These recent improvements include the Great Life Lagoon, a large pool area with two aquatic bars, as well as the Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only area,” Norwegian stated.
The cruise line also highlighted the upcoming debut of the Great Tides waterpark, which is scheduled to open in September. The attraction will feature 19 waterslides, a dynamic river experience and a variety of additional water attractions. “Everything was designed to make your shore stay just as memorable as your experience onboard,” the company added.
Norwegian Viva had originally been scheduled to operate weekly departures from San Juan between November and April, joining Norwegian Prima on seven-night Southern Caribbean itineraries visiting destinations including Aruba and Curaçao.
For the 2027-28 season, Norwegian’s Miami-based fleet will also include Norwegian Aura, Norwegian Luna, Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Joy.
As the newest and largest vessels in the fleet, Norwegian Aura and Norwegian Luna are set to offer seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. Norwegian Jewel and Norwegian Gem will operate a mix of themed charter sailings and longer 10- and 11-night itineraries to the Southern Caribbean and Central America.
Completing the lineup, Norwegian Joy will offer three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from PortMiami.
