One Dead and Several Injured in Port of Rotterdam Blast

One person has died and several others have been injured following an explosion at a refinery and oil storage terminal in the Port of Rotterdam.

The incident took place late on Thursday morning at a facility operated by commodities trading company Gunvor. The site is located within the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port complex.

According to a spokesperson for Gunvor, the explosion occurred while maintenance work was being carried out on one of the company’s storage tanks.

Following the blast, Rotterdam police secured the area and established a safety perimeter around the facility. Investigators have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine what caused the explosion.
