Passenger Overboard Reported on Star Breeze in Polynesia
A Code Oscar alert was issued aboard Windstar’s Star Breeze after a passenger was reported overboard while the ship was sailing near the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. The incident occurred during a 14-day Tahiti itinerary, with local media suggesting the man went overboard following an argument with his wife.
The missing passenger is believed to be a 66-year-old U.S. national. Reports indicate the incident took place at around 2:00 a.m., although the precise circumstances remain under investigation and authorities have not released full details.
Once the alarm was raised, the relevant authorities were informed and a search operation was launched. The French Navy patrol vessel Gardian was sent to the area and reached the scene at approximately 8:00 a.m. to assist in the search for the missing individual.
Star Breeze later proceeded to Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands, arriving on Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, police investigators boarded the ship and began conducting initial interviews as part of the inquiry into the incident.
Search operations and the investigation are still ongoing.
