Latvian authorities boarded a ship on January 4 as part of an investigation into damage to an undersea cable in the Baltic Sea that was discovered on January 2.

Officials confirmed that the vessel has not been seized and that none of the crew members have been detained. Authorities also noted that the crew is fully cooperating with investigators.

According to the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Centre, the damaged cable runs between Liepāja in Latvia and Šventoji in Lithuania. Latvia’s prime minister stated that the incident did not cause any disruption to communications.

The event comes shortly after a similar situation reported about a week earlier, when an undersea cable connecting Helsinki, Finland, and Estonia was damaged by the vessel Fitburg.
