India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on March 29 that two Indian-flagged LPG carriers, BW Tyr and BW Elm, have successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz carrying a combined 94,000 metric tons of LPG.

These vessels are the latest Indian ships to complete the transit, following four other tankers - Shivalik, Nanda Devi, Pine Gas, and Jag Vasant - which recently navigated the same route. BW Tyr is expected to reach Mumbai on March 31, while BW Elm is scheduled to arrive in New Mangalore on April 1.

According to the government, there are currently 18 Indian-flagged vessels operating in the Gulf, with a total of 485 Indian seafarers onboard. Authorities are closely monitoring their safety due to the ongoing tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been significantly reduced during the conflict. Iran has stated that only “non-hostile vessels” that coordinate with its authorities are permitted to pass through the area.
