Port of Dover Gains 10 Hectares of New Land at Western Docks

The United Kingdom’s Port of Dover has added 10 hectares of newly reclaimed land following the completion of a £53m ($72m) infrastructure and reclamation project at its Western Docks.

McLaughlin & Harvey and Boskalis Westminster have finished Stage 3B of the Dover Western Docks Revival scheme, which started in 2024.

The latest phase covered areas including the Wick Channel, Tidal Basin marinas and Granville Dock. Almost 900,000 cubic meters of infill material was used to raise the level of the dock bed to approximately 0.5 meters below the height of the existing quay walls.

The project also involved removing pontoons and gangways, along with demolition work on existing quay infrastructure.

Structures removed as part of the works included the North Pier and Ferry Jetty. New roads and utility infrastructure were also installed across the reclaimed area. In addition, the project delivered a significant new drainage network together with a stormwater pumping station.

The newly created land will support future development at the Western Docks and forms part of the Port of Dover’s broader long-term masterplan looking ahead to 2050.
