Two Workers Die in Accident at Singapore’s Tuas Port

Two workers have died after falling into the sea while carrying out stevedoring operations at Singapore’s Tuas Port.

PSA Singapore confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday while the two workers were involved in cargo-handling activities.

One of the workers was recovered from the water and pronounced dead. The second was taken to hospital but later died. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

“PSA is working closely with the relevant authorities, and investigations into the incident are ongoing,” the terminal operator said, adding that it was providing support to the families of both workers.

The fatal accident comes as Singapore continues the phased development of Tuas Port, which is planned to become one of the world’s largest automated container terminals.

Once fully completed in the 2040s, the port is designed to have an annual handling capacity of up to 65 million teu.

The development will eventually feature 66 berths along more than 26 km of waterfront. Singapore also plans to consolidate all of its existing container operations at Tuas as the project progresses.
