Reefer Vessel Rotsund Runs Aground Off Isle of Skye

On March 10, the reefer vessel Rotsund ran aground near the Isle of Skye, Scotland, after its anchor dragged while en route from Haugesund to Kyle.
The UK Coastguard responded to a distress signal from the vessel and called for assistance. At 2:18 AM local time, tugboats Spirit of Fred Olsen from Kyle of Lochalsh and Stanley Watson Barker from Portree were dispatched to help.
Upon arrival, the Spirit of Fred Olsen reported that the stern of the Rotsund had grounded and was being pushed further ashore by strong winds and rough seas.
The crew worked to free the vessel and succeeded at 4:15 AM local time, using the ship’s own thrusters and engine as the water level rose. The lifeboats remained on-site to ensure the crew’s safety and to confirm that there was no pollution from the vessel.
By noon, the tugboat Levoly Black and repair vessel Gina Mary towed the Rotsund to Kishorn Port & Dry Dock Ltd for further inspection and repairs.
