The sanctioned crude oil tanker Komander ran aground in the Suez Canal after suffering engine failure on October 28.

The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. local time near the 48-kilometre mark of the Canal. The vessel, measuring 274 meters in length, was the final ship in the southbound convoy, listed as vessel number 19.

While the 18 ships ahead of it passed through without issue, 20 northbound vessels were temporarily stopped as the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) dispatched tugboats to assist with the refloating operation.

The Komander was successfully refloated at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time. Authorities confirmed that there was no pollution or structural damage resulting from the grounding.
