Spirit of Environmental Care Shines at Celukan Bawang
A sense of community and environmental responsibility filled Celukan Bawang Harbor on Saturday, November 1, as residents from MV The World, its crew, and local stakeholders joined forces in a coastal clean-up event.
The Bahamas-flagged vessel, making its first-ever stop in North Bali on Friday, October 31, carried 104 residents and 299 crew members who stayed overnight before setting sail for Komodo Island the next day.
The clean-up, organized the following morning, was a collaborative effort involving PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 3 Celukan Bawang Branch (Pelindo), the Port Authority (KSOP), Immigration, Customs and Excise, Health Quarantine, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), Water Police (Polairud), and the Tourism Office. Working alongside local volunteers, participants scoured the coastline to collect plastic waste and debris.
Mochammad Imron, General Manager of Pelindo Celukan Bawang, said the initiative demonstrates a joint dedication to environmental protection and aligns with the “Green Port” vision shared by Pelindo and MV The World.
“This is a tangible symbol of environmental concern,” Imron said. “The collaboration between residents, crew members, and port authorities shows our dedication to keeping North Bali’s coastline clean and supporting eco-friendly tourism.”
Beyond the clean-up, the visit of The World also highlighted Buleleng’s cultural and natural attractions. After completing arrival and clearance procedures, guests visited Gitgit Waterfall, Munduk Tourism Village, and Lovina Beach. That evening, the port came alive with a Cultural Festival and live Balinese music performances, creating a warm and festive welcome for the visitors.
