A serious maritime collision occurred on the evening of October 25 near the Mayoushi Lightship in China’s Lingding Channel, within the Pearl River Estuary. The incident involved the bulk carrier Haili 5 and the inbound container ship Wan Hai A17.

Following the impact, the Chinese-flagged Haili 5 sank with 15 crew members onboard. According to the Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), which oversees maritime safety in the region, 13 of the crew have been rescued, while two remain unaccounted for.

Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched, deploying both sea and air units to assist in the rescue effort. Authorities have also implemented temporary traffic restrictions in the area and instructed nearby vessels to maintain safe distances while following Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) and patrol guidance. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

As of now, there have been no official reports of damage to the Singapore-flagged Wan Hai A17 resulting from the collision.
