Two fishermen are feared to have died after the chemical tanker Solis collided with the fishing trawler St. Joseph in the Arabian Sea. The smaller vessel suffered severe damage and sank shortly after the impact.

The accident took place on March 8 while the trawler was anchored roughly 120 nautical miles off the coast of Kerala. At around midday, the Panama-flagged tanker Solis struck the fishing boat.

Following the collision, two crew members from the trawler were reported missing and are believed to have died. The other nine fishermen were rescued by the crew of the Solis.

The Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Anagh reached the location soon after the incident and transported the rescued fishermen to Vizhinjam Port. Search operations for the two missing crew members are still ongoing.

Authorities from the Indian Directorate General of Shipping have confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision.
